Did you know that there are Hidden Mickey’s (HM’s) all over Disney World?  This is a fun game that you can play with your kids while wandering around the parks.  I was surprised to find so many that are right there in front of you while walking around.  Tell your kids that whoever finds the most HM’s, they get an extra special prize!

Here is a sampling of what you can “discover” while wandering around the parks:

    In the Magic Kingdom

In the Haunted Mansion banquet scene, check out the arrangement of the plate and adjoining saucers on the table.

In the Africa scene of It’s a Small World, note the purple flowers on a vine on the elephant’s left side.

While riding Splash Mountain, look for Mickey lying on his back in the pink clouds to the right of the Zip-A-Dee Lady paddle-wheeler.

Disney is full of little secrets not everyone knows about, either because it’s not advertised, or because it’s really just something pretty small for folks to pick up on.

Here are a few that you may or may not have heard about:

    1) Buzz Light Year ride (Magic Kingdom). If you hit the giant robot on the inside of it’s left hand you will gain an additional 100,000 points for your efforts.

    2) Less traveled pathways to help you avoid heavy human traffic. You can shave minutes off your time so that you can devote more time to the rides and fun.

    3) Polynesian Hotel (Accessible by Monorail). Lie in a hammock on the beach and see the Magic Kingdom fireworks, as well as the Water Parade. What a great spot to view both of these fantastic perks!

Disney World discounts vary throughout the year, and the key to getting the best discount in any season is to book as far in advance as possible. The best discounts, during Disney’s Value Season, can be booked for fall and winter non-holiday dates.

Value Season is actually a great time to visit Disney World – the Florida weather is mild and the crowds are minimal. A few seasonal attractions may be closed, but the lines are shorter and the environment is more relaxed, so you can see and do more than during peak vacation times.

AAA is an excellent source of Disney World discounts. Members can receive savings on park tickets, dining, shows, or other attractions, especially if booked well in advance. While Disney World itself does not offer senior discounts, seven on-site non-Disney hotels honor AARP and other senior discounts.

When you plan a once in a lifetime vacation to Disney World, you want it to go as smoothly as possible.  Here are a few suggestions to make the most of your Disney World vacation:

    • This is “the happiest place on earth,” so make sure to plan your daily itinerary ahead of your trip so you don’t have to worry with reservations or decisions about which parks and attractions to visit.  A well-planned visit is a hassle-free visit.
    • Check for ride and attraction closings to ensure that your favorite Disney World interests are open during your stay.
    • Bring your own food and beverages for small meals or snacks.  Dining at Disney World is an experience you won’t want to miss, but food purchased in the park is expensive. All of the rooms include at least a refrigerator, and the campsites even have a grill, so you can defray costs by bringing your own meals, snacks, and drinks.

Trust me when I say that whether you are flying or driving to Disney World, your kids want to be entertained the entire trip…no matter the length. I find that our kids (and kids in general these days) need to be entertained every second of the day. They feel compelled to fill every single second doing something.

I remember one of the most fun games we played while driving was looking for license plates from all the different states. Not any more…if it is not electronic it will not hold their interest!

Walt Disney World Resort, located southwest of Orlando, Florida, has been widely regarded as one of the great American vacation destinations since its opening on October 1, 1971. The celebrated realization of recreational visionary Walt Disney’s dream, the resort features four theme parks, two water parks, twenty-seven theme hotels and four golf courses.
